Classroom Central was formed thirteen years ago, with the mission of equipping students living in poverty to effectively learn by collecting and distributing free school supplies. Currently, six school districts (Charlotte-Mecklenburg, Gaston, Iredell-Statesville, Kannapolis, Lancaster and Union) receive supplies that allow teachers to create inviting learning environments and support student’s academic and personal growth.
XOOM’s Fall Festival kicked-off with a themed costume contest and staff members dressed as notable celebrities such as Lucille Ball (50’s Day), Mr. T (80’s Day) and Steve Urkel (Jocks vs. Nerds Day) on various days throughout the week. Culinary creativity was on full display during the bake sale and the XOOM team took full advantage of the delicious items provided by various employees. Contributions were also collected from the Silent Auction, where donated items and services of every price point were available for purchase.
By the end of the week, spirits were high and awareness was raised concerning impoverished children in our communities. This donation, coupled with the funds raised over the summer during the “XOOM Sports Shorts” event, brought the total XOOM Energy donation to $3,000. Given the success of the event, XOOM management looks forward to expanding the Fall Festival in 2014 and looking for other ways to support charitable organizations in our area.
