Pasadena Portrait Photographer Aaron Gil Wins Top Prize In 2013 Wedding & Portrait Photographers International Competition

Aaron Gil of Pasadena, CA has received special honors in the Wedding & Portrait Photographers International (WPPI) 2013 Awards of Excellence 16x20 Competition designed to recognize outstanding photographers. The judging was held in Las Vegas, NV on March 9 and 10, 2013.

Gil captured both the Grand Award and the 1^st Place Award in the Portrait Glamour/Boudoir Category for his print entitled “Fruit of the Harem.” The judges awarded his work a rare perfect score of 100, indicating the best possible use of all skills and creativity: new, fresh, and unique. Only about 5 entries have received perfect scores over the past 15 years of WPPI competitions.

“Fruit of the Harem” is from a series of photos that Gil created inspired by the paintings of acclaimed French Neoclassical artist Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres (1780-1867). Gil’s sister Ximena Gil assisted with makeup and master print maker Jonathan Penney of Center Moriches, NY was instrumental in generating the final appearance of this portrait. “All of this collaboration culminated in a winning print!” says Gil. “I am so, so very honored in the most humbling way to be recognized by peers in my industry. Although I do not know the names of the judges as of now, I am eternally grateful to them for this great honor.”

Gil competed against an international field of photographers to win the honors. The Awards of Excellence 16x20 Print Competition awards are presented each year at the largest trade show, educational platform and convention in the United States for professional photographers. The 2013 competition included 1900 prints in 23 different categories by photographers from all over the world.
