Solar Sam then told me that even a small amount of shading in one corner of your whole solar panel array can reduce the output by as much as 60% which costs you money or storage depending on whether you have installed a grid connected system or a fully standalone solar system.

“The reason for this is the way the panels are connected together and it is possible to connect them in such a way that these impacts are minimised but salespeople generally don’t even mention the problem let alone the solution” said Sam.

OK, that covers shading but what about the maintenance? “All solar panels either on your home or your RV collect dust, dirt and bird droppings. These all have the effect of reducing the efficiency of your panels and reduce the power output” said Solar Sam. “It can be as bad or even worse than shading so annual cleaning should be the minimum that’s done.”

According to Sam this lack of information is an unfortunate side effect of the salesperson’s desire to make a sale without making sure that you, the buyer and ultimate beneficiary of those solar panels, fully understand the limitations as well as the benefits of installing solar panels for a grid connect system or a full off-grid solar system.

Since I am also in the market for an off-grid system for my motorhome I found this discussion with Solar Sam to be of major interest and he has helped me to make good decisions about what type of solar panel kit to buy. Ingesting the most critical nutrients daily can prevent common health risks associated with aging

Vitamin D is as important as calcium because without it, one's body is unable to absorb the calcium it needs to rebuild bone. WebMD recommends '600 international units (IU) of vitamin D per day from age 1 through age 70 and 800 IU daily after the age of 70'. It is worth noting that some osteoporosis experts believe that getting 800 to 1200 IU of vitamin D is even better for those at risk of the disease.

For those that are wondering how to get this much of these needed nutrients, do not worry. These are easily gotten through the food one eats or by taking bone health vitamins. There is no difference in the type of calcium found in food or supplements as calcium is a mineral and not made by the body. Therefore, many of the foods eaten today are fortified with calcium and vitamin D much like bone health supplements are.

Many adults over the age of 70 believe that it doesn't matter what they eat or don't eat, their body is getting older and no longer works like it did. While, that is true for the most part, one's bones are still doing their daily replenishing routine. So, the more one pays attention to their bones by eating the right kinds of foods and getting the calcium and vitamin D one needs, the less likely one will suffer from bone fractures and osteoporosis.
